Wear Red Day 2015

Friday, February 6, 2015 is National Wear Red Day® - a day when Americans nationwide will take women’s health to heart by wearing red to show their support for women’s heart disease awareness.

Join the national awareness movement by wearing RED on February 6th & encourage your family, friends and coworkers to do the same.

Register through the city's internal training database or contact HR at x8535 for your red dress pin to show your support for the fight against heart disease in women.
Heart Disease is still the #1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year
This means women like you – mothers, sisters, friends-- are dying at the rate of one per minute.
In fact, in the time it takes to read this, another women will die from heart disease.

Know the facts!!  Read this flyer to learn about the facts around women and cardiovascular disease. 

The Heart Truth Facts:
  • Nearly 37% of all female deaths in America occur from Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), which includes coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
  • At age 40 and older, 23% of women compared with 18% of men will die within one year after a heart attack. 
  • Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term disability; an estimated 15% to 30% of stroke survivors are permanently disabled.

The tendency to develop heart disease can run in the family, passed down through risk factors, such
as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar levels and obesity. Print out this family tree

Studies show that exercise provides many additional benefits besides just losing weight. It can
strengthen your heart, increase your HDL (Good Cholesterol), and many others. Here are some
