Fall & Spring Leaf Collection

Spring Leaf Collection

In the spring, Concord residents with curbside trash and recycling collection can place an unlimited amount of leaves and grass clippings in biodegradable yard waste bags or labeled rigid containers for Spring Leaf Collection. Leaves must be to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled trash collection day next to your trash and recycling. Please do not use plastic bags. Collection will occur for six weeks. Bags and containers containing any unacceptable items will not be collected. Leaves are brought to Earth Materials Recycling Center to be recycled into compost for reuse.

Fall Leaf Collection

In the fall, Concord residents can rake their leaves to the curb (un-bagged) for Concord General Services' Highway and Utilities crews to vacuum up. Crews typically only have time to collect high priority areas once. Only leaves will be picked up and any miscellaneous items (including branches, rocks, and brush) will not be collected. Leaves are brought to several locations for composting after collection.

2016 Fall Leaf Collection
After running for the intended six weeks, Fall Leaf Collection is officially over for the season. Collection started on October 31, 2016 with three separate crews collecting leaves throughout the city. The program was projected to continue through December 9th, weather permitting. A few early winter snow storms impeded collection efforts; however, crews went right back to leaf collection after plowing and treating city streets and sidewalks. However, snow does complicate and slow down the collection process. The vacuums start collecting leaves and snow, and sometimes the leaves become frozen to the ground or in the snow, making collection almost impossible at times. The most recent storms have accumulated snow along city streets that now prohibit the use of vacuum trucks. Despite persistent efforts to continue Fall Leaf Collection, the winter weather appears to have set into the capitol region, requiring crews to change priority to plowing and winter operations. Fortunately, crews were able to pass through practically all of the city’s residential streets once to collect leaves before the weather changed. There are still some locations in the rural areas of the city that crews unfortunately did not have time to reach.
